I have got off to a promising start in January. I bought a couple of new glazes and have been experimenting with a slightly lower firing temperature, 1200c, instead of 1240c. This has has some upsides with regards to the oranges and reds but a downside regarding the deep blue from last year.
In the photos below you can see a couple of large platters exhibit a vibrant orange / red, and the hearts and other ornaments have a lovely deeper red. However the glaze that previously produced a sparkling dark blue has, at the lower temperature, fired to a matt purple.
On some of the mugs you will notice a new sand coloured glaze this is really stable, it works well on the bases of the mugs and vases etc as it does not flow down the pots during firing.
There has also been some interest shown about ceramics lessons for 2021. I am hoping this side of the work will grow this year.
I would love to hear your comments on the pots and platters below, I am always interested to hear what you have to say, as it feeds into ideas for future work.
Best wishes and good health to all in 2021.
