Just as October is coming to a close I have managed to finish getting a full porcelain kiln load; thrown, turned and glazed. The throwing and turning seem to be getting a little easier and I am getting more confident in taking on larger pieces; I hope the photographs this month reflect my progress.
However, firing the glazed work is still proving to be a significant challenge. If you remember from previous blog posts, I had significant issues with runny glazes and damage to kiln shelves. This month the kiln shelves have been saved ,thanks to the careful use of kiln stilts, but still the glazes seem to drift to the base of the pots.
Below are some of the best results of the firing, there were a few other real disasters; one larger “wavy bowl” actually broke into three pieces, and some other slab work was badly warped.
Any feedback gratefully received.
